The skills tested are at the same level as those of graduating high school seniors. A person must be at least 16 years old before they may take the test. The GED is one well-known exam used for HSE.

The Muncie Area Career Center provides free classes to adults who have not earned a high school diploma or those who need some help preparing to be College and Career Ready.

For self-guided study online, LearningExpress offers online practice tests and study guides. LearningExpress is free to Hoosiers via INSPIRE, the state's virtual library. From the LearningExpress Homepage go to High School Equivalency Center to find practice tests and study guides.
