History

In 2017, Muncie Public Library celebrated the grand opening of the Gateway to Gardening Pavilion at Maring-Hunt Library, a partnership with Ball State University. The project included neighborhood input sessions (charrettes), design concepts, and finally, the construction of a beautiful pavilion to be enjoyed by the community! The project was made possible by a BSU Immersive Learning Project grant, and was designed and built by BSU students and their faculty mentor, Dr. Pam Harwood.

The Garden Space at Maring-Hunt Library now includes a Walking Trail, Kitchen Pavilion, Learning/Market Pavilion, Reading Nook, Nature Play Pockets, a Sand Play Pocket, Bio-Swale with Native Indiana Plants, and Public/Private Gardens.

Garden Plots

The Maring-Hunt branch has 14 garden plots within a fenced area that are available for rent each season. Rent a garden plot (or two!). Plots are first come, first serve. Max 2 plots per person.

**2025 Garden Plot Registration begins March 3, 2025**

Registration form coming soon!

We also have several plots outside of the fence where we grow food for the community. If you are interested in helping Library staff maintain these community plots, please reach out!
