Tips for eBooks and Audiobooks
Due to licensing terms, the library may need to repurchase a title after a certain number of borrows, so most items will include a short Sample you can read or listen to while you decide what to borrow or reserve. Sampling does not count as a borrow. This means that sampling can keep wait lists shorter and save money for the library.
For Libby users, begin by searching or browsing the Libby app or Indiana Digital Library website on a phone, tablet, or computer. Borrow the item you wish to read. Tap “Read with…” Kindle and then finish sending to Kindle.
For Palace Project users, the Palace App works on iOS and Android phones and tablets, and does not integrate with Amazon Kindle because Kindle DRM and format are proprietary to Amazon Kindle. If the item you borrowed belongs to the Indiana Digital Library collection, you can use the Indiana Digital Library website or Libby App to send the item to your Kindle.
On personal computers, we recommend using the Libby App website, which emulates the app, even storing your card(s) and reading progress. On shared computers, we recommend using the Indiana Digital Library website to see the same collection available in the Libby App.
The Palace Project is not available on the web. The Palace app is available for iPhones, iPads, and Android phones and tablets.

The home screen of the Libby app features titles for all ages. However, you can browse curated guides or manually set a preference for limiting titles by age-level.
On the “Library” screen, you can select “Guides” for Kids and Teens that filter search results to those age levels. When you select the Kids or Teens guide, you can apply this age-level filter everywhere in Libby as a lasting preference:
To set a preference for Kids materials:
- Tap on "Kids" under "Guides"
- Tap on the "juvenile" button. It should change color.
- Tap on the "juvenile" button a second time. In the pop-up, tap on "Pin Filter"
- You will now only see children’s materials while you are using Libby until you reset your filters. Exceptions: Big Library Read titles will still appear.
To set a preference for Teens materials:
- Tap on "Teens" under "Guides"
- Tap on the "young adult" button. It should change color.
- Tap on the "young adult" button a second time. In the pop-up, tap on "Pin Filter"
- You will now only see teen materials while you are using Libby until you reset your filters. Exceptions: Big Library Read titles will still appear.
Additionally, when searching, tap the Filters button and the Audience filter can be changed to “Juvenile” or “Young Adult” or "Adult" and will remain that way until you manually change preferences in the app, reset the app, or sign out and back in again.
We recommend using our Request form when you wish to borrow an ebook or audiobook that is not in the collection.
